4.0 out of five stars Excellent Engineering, but didn’t fit my wheels, January 4, 2009
By Melissa E. Davis (Seattle) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Thule K Summit Low Profile Passenger Car Snow Chain, Size K33 (Sold in pairs) (Automotive) I could not wait to get these, given Seattle’s unexpected week of ice. The chains fit some number of tire sizes with clear information for removing zero four sizing clips for each size (all four for my 225/50 R17). They are as easy on/off as this video shows (youtube.Com/watch?V=opugSM6xs58). No have to get knees wet, or lay on the ground.

The chains ride only on the tread and not on the back of the wheel/tire, requiring no inside clearance. The thin cable chains add only about 10mm to the top clearance. The ice grips are violent and the chain angles will supply lateral slide resistance.

The set came with the tools required to remove the clips and mount the lugs. The clips are put on from the factory with something like “Lock tite”. Recommend a 7mm socket to replace the wrench and your good set of metric Allen wrenches (3mm).

Only problem was the lug locking system was too shallow to fit my recessed lugs on the standard wheels of my car (Infiniti I 30t). This shouldn’t be a problem for most cars. Quickly allowed return/refund. Thule sent me to an authorized local dealer for a fit for their CS 10′s which don’t require a lug lock, but will require me to be on the ground in the slush to mount and dismount.

I could loved to have kept these. I guess it’s too much to expect Thule to researched all the types of wheels on the market.

4.0 out of five stars Works as advertised, but check your lugnut/bolt size, December 14, 2009
By Travis Woodland (Moscow, ID USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Thule K Summit Low Profile Passenger Car Snow Chain, Size K22 (Sold in pairs) (Automotive) The K 22s work just as advertised. It takes a little extra effort the 1st time or two, but once you get used to the system, they are the simplest chains to put on you will ever own. The traction looks good, and the chains tighten around the tire perfectly. It nearly feels like they’re part of the tire (which means them off on occasion takes a little effort just make sure you have many gloves you do not mind to get a bit dirty)

I drive a car with 21mm lugnuts. These ship with 17 and 19mm fittings, so make sure that if you have a car with bigger lugnuts you get the adapter. (Prius holders, that means you). They’re available from . If is sold out.

I have not had these for long, but they seem to be high quality. The warranty is one year, but I could expect them to last much longer. And yes, the price is a little high, but it’s many less than the cost of damage rims and surely many less than interior damage to your cars braking mechanisms or just cosmetic damage inside the wheel well. Add that to easy install and it is kind of a no brainer. Greatly suggested. I’d give five stars, but I feel like THULE cheaped out by not the 21mm fits standard. Making that a $25 add on for a product with a retail price of $450 is ridiculous.

5.0 out of five stars Tales from My Little Mountain, February 8, 2011
By S. McCleaf (PA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Thule K Summit Low Profile Passenger Car Snow Chain, Size K55 (Sold in pairs) (Automotive) 1st I could like to say that for those of you proposing I get “real tire chains”. I have two pair that I have managed to get onto my tires exactly. Never. If you’d want to purchase two pair of 17″ snow chains cheap just leave me a message, you may be able to have ‘em. “Real tire chains” may be great for many people, but if I can not get them on and off my car quickly and easily, they’re useless to me.

I live 1400 feet up a two and a half mile dirt/gravel road that stays ice and snow protected for weeks after there’s no snow anywhere else in our county. I’m a business owner, if I can not get to work, I do not get paid, simple as that. I needed a product that was easy for a 40+ year old woman to get on and off by herself six days a week.

For the last three winters I have been using Spikes Spiders, which I really think is a pretty good product also, but after being put thru the rigors of mountain life, many of the plastic parts of the Spikes Spiders beginned to break and needed substitute, so I began looking for an alternative. These chains by Thule seem to be a great alternative so far.

I have a 2006 Saturn Vue AWD. I will admit that fitting these chains the 1st time was a little difficult, but I haved to unlearn what I expected from the Spikes Spiders. They did fall off the 1st time I used them, but I realized I had reversed a part while trying to be sure I had the right lug adapter on, so it was not a fault of engineering but a simple mistake that was easily corrected .While I was halfway up my mountain. You can not fix an modification to regular tire chains unless your car is totally level, which mine most surely wasn’t. I am going to propose the many of the people who are reporting that the chains fell off their tires may well have made the same easy to make mistake.

Otherwise, the information seemed straight forward and now that I have done it some times (I only got them five days ago) I can put these on and get them off in a matter of minutes. The Spikes Spiders were easier to put on and took less time, but these chains are more violent in traction control, so I feel it’s a good trade off.

Although I can not attest to the durability of this product still, I am pretty confident that the sturdier construction (in comparison to my old Spikes Spiders) will have them last for me at least as long as my old “Snap On” chains. Considering the price I got the K Summits for here on (more then $200 LESS then the Spikes Spiders), I feel these will be money well spent. They’re easy and they work.

3.0 out of five stars Lacks an auto Float Charging System, February 21, 2010
By Camera Shy (Baltimore, MD USA) See all my reviews This review is from: Stanley J5C09 500 Amp Jump Starter with fitted Air Compressor (Automotive) This unit should supply the capacity required to jump start most cars. But, there are some things to note:

1. This unit doesn’t have an auto float charging system. That means you can not just leave it plugged in & expect it to preserve a full charge. Instead, you have to periodically unplug it and replug it in (at least every not many months). If you forget, you won’t only not have a charged unit when you need it, but, the battery can become damaged also if left to completely discharge. Chargers costing as little as $20 have the feature; there is no reason to exclude it on a unit like this.

2. This unit doesn’t include a power cord. Instead, you’ll have to use an extension cord; it needs to be a single dongle variant due to design of the unit.

3. This unit doesn’t include a storage compartment. Not a big deal, but, if you have many accessories you want to tote (like a power cord or inflation needle), you will not have a convenient place to store it.

I’ve also had two PowerStation units. One died inside a year and the other still works (I think). Time will tell how the Stanley stacks up.

5.0 out of five stars Worth its weight in gold, April 17, 2010
By E. Hu See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Stanley J5C09 500 Amp Jump Starter with fitted Air Compressor (Automotive) .And that is saying many, because this thing is so heavy.
I have not used all the features, but I newly had a electrical problem in my car. The alternator drained my battery, and I had to unplug it every time. I got the jump starter after my car has been fixed, but then I forgot to turn my lights off two days afterward. This thing jumped my car just good.
I have many of problems with my tires in the winter, air gradually leaks out of one of my tires. This will come in useful then, also. It will save me a couple bucks going to the gas station to fill up air.

Pros: It works. Lots of features, as well as a cigarette lighter charger, USB charger, and air compressor for your tires. Easy to carry with the handle up top.

Cons: Heavy, it takes a long time to charge (15 19 hrs), and you will need an extension cord to charge it.

5.0 out of five stars So nice I bought it twice! :) , April 5, 2011
By J. Haggard (Nashville, TN) See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) () This review is from: Stanley J5C09 500 Amp Jump Starter with fitted Air Compressor (Automotive) I drive a honda ridgeline pickup truck and my wife drive a honda civic. I have been looking for a decent jumpstarter that could be powerful enough for both of our vehicles. Rather then having two different models it just seemed easier to get two same units. After reading reviews on some number of different jump starters I opted for this model.

Now the most negative thing I could find about this thing was it lacked a flat charger so you could not leave it plugged in. For me that is not a factor, after all I bought this to charge it , then put it in the trunk of my wifes car and in the cargo area of my truck. I do not intend on leaving this plugged in. If you plan on using this HOW it’s intended then you too do not have to worry about the lack of a float charger.

That being said, the unit itself is a bit heavy, imagine picking up really big battery, that is generally what this is. It has many weight to it.

The jumpstarter itself includes an interesting little light that pivots also as an air compressor. I have heard/read back reviews on the air compressor, for me it is not why I bought it. But initial checks it seems like it works good and has someplace to store the air hose which is really nice.

The one negative I have on this thing is the power switch for the air compressor is on the back and isn’t protected. In other words it may in hypothesis be flipped on and drain the battery. So when you have to jump your car the starter could be dead. I wish they put a cover or moved the switch but honestly it could take a perfect mistake for that to get turned on so it is really not that important. To prevent this from possibly happening I really went down to Target and bought two milk crates, one for me and one for my wife. I put a jump starter, 1st aid kit, oil, etc in the crate so it is generally the roadside emergency crate and also guards the jumpstarter from to get knocked around or turned on.

Overall I spent $140 total on two of these and I am really happy with the quality. They charge overnight easily, the display lights show you the charge left over on the battery and it has power ports for 12volt and USB which is an added bonus.

If you need a jumpstarter I could certainly think about this one.

5.0 out of five stars Good purchase., October 23, 2010
By Tom See all my reviews () This review is from: Mothers Power Polishing Kit (Automotive) I am happy I bought this product through Amazon, for was much cheaper than purchasing things individually and many cheaper than my local auto parts store, save around $50 bucks.

I have a 97 ram truck that I just had repainted and I needed the Mothers P.P. Kit for my chrome wheels, bumpers and black trim that were oxidize and neglected for many time. Now I have not use the big red or yellow balls still for those will be used for buffing and waxing and since the paint is new it’ll be light responsibility for them. The cone was the one I used to do all the buffing and small red ball for polishing and they did a extraordinary job. But, after around 30 hours of use the cone did get 60 destroyed from the wheels caused by the semi sharp crevices and my violent buffing action, the small red ball held up well with about 20 damage.

Even though I need a new cone I am very happy with the results and the metal polish put a great shine on my chrome bumpers and wheels.

3.0 out of five stars OK but., December 24, 2010
By Nakoa (hawaii) See all my reviews () This review is from: Mothers Power Polishing Kit (Automotive) The polishing kit is OK and does make the job a little easier but the fact is that it still takes many of muscle to polish the car.

1.0 out of five stars didn’t like, December 23, 2010
By TexasTonka See all my reviews () This review is from: Mothers Power Polishing Kit (Automotive) Found it hard to use, flung product everywhere, didn’t get into the regions I needed it to. Costly and a ache. Is simpler to polish by hand with better result.
